Stole a Little Time

I took advantage of a couple of free hours yesterday afternoon and finally sandwiched and basted the small Ohio stars quilt. This involves me taping the backing to the living room floor, stacking the other layers on top and then crawling around the edges trying to get everything smooth and even, then trying to baste without disturbing the top. There must be a better way.

I'm going to quilt it in a diagonal grid--just utility quilting, nothing fancy. My fingertips are protesting, though. They don't appreciate having to go through all those heavy seams.

I just stumbled across this pinless painless basting video the other day. I have not tried it yet, but I'm really hoping that it works as well as it looks. It would be wonderful not to have crawl around on the floor on my hands and knees to baste a quilt anymore! http://sharonschambernetwork.com/free_area/videos/pinless_bast/index.html

I quilt by machine but basting with pins has me squished between my kitchen cabinets doing the same thing!

Thanks for coming by my blog!

This is a gorgeous quilt - and how impressive that you are handquilting it! I have to control myself to not stop everything I am working on right now and start that one.
I crawl on my hands and knees to baste as well.

your quilt is absolutely gorgeous...and you are like me...i don't have a "design wall"...everything is done on the floor with me crawling around on my hands and knees...lol...i'm sure i look horribly silly...=)

Oooh, what a beautiful quilt!

I use the same method when I sandwich my quilts, and therefore you don´t do it until you HAVE to. Your knees, back and everything else hurts after one sandwiching. Your star is beautiful.

Oh, how lovely! Thanks for commenting on my sad post. You're clearly doing that carpe diem stuff right now.

That method sounds familiar. How are your knees by the way *lol* But the quilt looks great, lovely colors. I admire you, handquilting such huge quilt! Looking forward to next posting.

In love your handquilting. Stitch in the ditch is not easy when you make it by hand.

Diana, This quilt is beautiful! I love your color choices.

I watched the video that Suzy mentioned. It looks like a real possibility. I'm looking forward to trying out that technique on my next quilt.
